Caroline Owens ~ I do this for an important cause

I have ridden in the Habitat 500 three years, and each ride has been an incredible experience. Writing this has caused me to ponder why I would do such a “crazy thing,” when I am at an age (according to my husband) when I am supposed to relax and enjoy life. This is my explanation for signing up again this year:

It is a challenge, both mentally and physically. I am far from being the fastest rider, and do not have the best form, but finishing is a great feeling. The other participants from NSLCHFH are fun to ride with, as are the riders from other Habitat affiliates. It is a well supported ride by Habitat Minnesota.

Above all, I do this for an important cause. Thanks to contributions from supporters, I have been able to raise money to help North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity fulfill its mission. As our affiliate grows, more funds are needed to build more houses. During the week of the ride, we meet several partner families and participate in a groundbreaking ceremony, so we are always aware of why we were doing such a “crazy thing.”
