Partners in the Kitchen

As Deniese has said, "Home is where your heart is." Habitat understands that, for many families, the heart of the home is in the kitchen.


Habitat for Humanity has collected hundreds of recipes from Habitat affiliates all over the world, available in three great cookbooks. We thought we'd share a delicious recipe from these cookbooks each week. Try them out and let us know what you think! Banana-Chocolate-Nut Bread

                                                                                                                                                                                 Yield: 12 servings


4 large bananas, mashed
1/4 cup oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons milk
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chocolate chips
Combine bananas, oil, vanilla, sugar and nutmeg in bowl; mix well. Blend in milk and eggs. Add flours, baking powder and baking soda; mix well. Fold in pacans and chocolate chips. Spoon into lightly greased 5x9-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Remove to wire rack to cool.
