As Deniese has said, "Home is where your heart is." Habitat understands that, for many families, the heart of the home is in the kitchen.
Habitat for Humanity has collected hundreds of recipes from Habitat affiliates all over the world, available in three great cookbooks. We thought we'd share a delicious recipe from these cookbooks each week. Try them out and let us know what you think!                                                                                                                Burmese Curry
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Yield: 8 servings
Ingredients:
2 teaspoons butter
6 onions, sliced
2 pounds ground beef
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons curry powder
1 teaspoon ginger
2 28-ounce cans of tomatoes
12 drops of Tabasco sauce
4 beef bouillon cubes
1/4 cup whipping cream

  • Melt butter in large electric skillet. Cover bottom of skillet with onions. Shape ground beef into small balls. Arrange over onions. Sprinkle with seasonings. Pour half the tomatoes over mixture. Cook, covered, at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Add remaining tomatoes, Tabasco sauce and bouillon cubes; mix well. Cook, covered, at 350 degrees for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Serve over rice, garnished with sliced bananas, coconut, peanuts or almonds and chutney.
