Firebaugh Construction Update - Hibbing

Posted: 2009-03-13 10:48:32

The second half of the school year is well under way, and the high school groups from the schools of Hibbing, Nashwauk-Keewatin, and Chisholm are deep into the building project in Hibbing. While progress was slowed somewhat by a delay in the electrical inspection and the extremely cold weather, things are progressing quite well.

As of the beginning of March, the heat is finally on, the sheet rock is hung, and the students are trying their hand at the ever popular mudding and taping of the sheet rock. Several of the students are really getting the hang of it under the guidance of Harold Wentland who has graciously given his time to work with the students over several days.

The siding is on order. As soon as it warms up some of the crew will be outside as others start the flooring, hanging the doors, trim and cabinetry. All seems to be progressing well, and as the weather starts to change we are looking forward to sidewalks and completion of the house, which we hope will be the first of many in this Applied Learning Institute sponsored partnership of Habitat, the three partner schools and Hibbing Community College.
