Today National Volunteer Week begins!
The 2009 theme for National Volunteer Week, commemorated April 19-25, is "Celebrating People in Action." The theme captures the meaning behind this signature week – honoring the individuals who dedicate themselves to taking action and solving problems in their communities.
This theme embodies the awesome work of Habitat volunteers! Thank you for volunteering with Habitat! If you are in the area, come visit the Habitat table at the Volunteer Fair at the Hibbing Community College on Monday April 20th from 11:00-12:30, in Virginia on Wednesday April 22nd, and in Hibbing on Thursday April 23rd. We look forward to seeing, and building!, with you soon.
And scan the news for several milestone events that will converge during this week to focus attention on celebrating those who have strived to renew our national commitment and culture of service that has shaped America. The 2009 National Volunteer Week will include several significant recognition events celebrating leaders in the field of service, including a reception on Capitol Hill honoring Senators Kennedy and Hatch for their efforts behind the Serve America Act and also an induction ceremony for the Extra Mile.
