Breaking Ground in Aurora

Posted: 2009-06-15 11:34:44

Yesterday the community of Aurora and local Habitat volunteers gathered with future Habitat homeowner Heather Jackson to celebrate the beginning of another build. Even the sun seemed to be celebrating with us as we stood on the level surface now ready for forms.

Nathan Thompson, executive director, hosted the short program. He introduced board president Rod McPeak, Aurora Mayor Mary Hess, our Habitat partner family Heather Jackson, and neighbor Elaine Popovich (who so generously sold Habitat the lovely lot). Each shared of words of excitement about the coming build. Father Keith Bertram of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Aurora shared a blessing.

Then with typical enthusiasm Heather dug into the ground where her new home will soon stand. Handing the shovel off to Mr. McPeak with a laughing smile, friends and volunteers each took a turn.
