Day of Prayer 2009

Posted: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Prayer is an essential component in any worthwhile endeavor. That’s why so many people joined their hearts in prayer all on the same day. The first annual Day of Prayer for Habitat worship service was held at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth on Sunday, September 20, 2009. The ecumenical gathering heard scripture, special music, sang hymns and joined in prayer not just with each other, but the numerous people around the globe who were also praying for Habitat for Humanity. The executive director of our local Habitat for Humanity affiliate welcomed the worshippers with warm words. The congregation then sang He’s Got the Whole World, a favorite and familiar hymn. Pastor Brian Birk, board member and local Lutheran pastor led us in the Habitat Prayer for Shelter. After a solo of On Eagle’s Wings by Judy Peliska, Pastor Brenda Kramer-King and Pastor Nathan Williams read scripture passages to help us consider God’s message of helping one another. Following that, a special message was shared by Father Charlie Flynn. Pastor Bill Evans then read a Bible passage from Matthew 25:31-46. The congregation joined their voices in a song adapted especially for Habitat for Humanity called A House of Love. Pastor Don Norr led us in prayer and The Lord’s Prayer. After the worshippers sang All Are Welcome, we all headed to the fellowship hall for delicious cake and coffee provided by the Catholic Daughters. The church relations committee would like to thank all who contributed to this special day. We really appreciate all who keep Habitat for Humanity in their prayers, whether it is on designated day of prayer, or in your daily prayer life.
